Plastics are widely used in various industries due to their low production costs and high durability. However, their production and disposal lead to serious environmental and health issues. Plastic waste must be effectively recycled, as it can take hundreds of years to decompose naturally. This study first examines the environmental challenges arising from excessive plastic use and explores recycling solutions, particularly focusing on a novel method that converts plastics into carbon quantum dots.
Carbon quantum dots are nanoparticles with unique physical and chemical properties, characterized by low toxicity, high solubility, and strong fluorescence, making them suitable for diverse applications. This innovative approach not only effectively addresses plastic pollution but also offers social and economic benefits, aligning with the United Nations' sustainable development goals.
By utilizing plastic waste as a resource for producing carbon quantum dots, this method presents a promising solution for reducing environmental pollution while fostering scientific and technological advancements. Overall, this process highlights the significant potential of plastic waste as a source for green innovations, paving the way for a more sustainable future.
