Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of network hybrid materials composed of a combination of inorganic and organic linkers with metal ions in a regular manner. Metal-organic frameworks consist of two main parts: metal centers and organic linkages. Organic linkages, known as secondary organic building blocks, play the role of pillars in the structure, while metal centers, known as secondary inorganic building blocks, play the role of joints. . The structural, physical, mechanical, and morphological properties of these materials are directly dependent on the properties of both parts. These materials have attracted much attention in various scientific and industrial fields due to their high specific surface area, ability to adjust pore size, and diverse structures. With network synthesis, MOFs with specific components can be formed, which leads to the production of crystals with high porosity and high chemical and thermal stability. This study provides a brief overview of the structural aspects of metal-organic frameworks, their properties, classification and nomenclature, as well as synthesis approaches.
